A Complete Generalized Adjustment Criterion

چکیده
Covariate adjustment is a widely used approach to estimate total causal effects from observational data. Several graphical criteria have been developed in recent years to identify valid covariates for adjustment from graphical causal models. These criteria can handle multiple causes, latent confounding, or partial knowledge of the causal structure; however, their diversity is confusing and some of them are only sufficient, but not necessary. In this paper, we present a criterion that is necessary and sufficient for four different classes of graphical causal models: directed acyclic graphs (DAGs), maximum ancestral graphs (MAGs), completed partially directed acyclic graphs (CPDAGs), and partial ancestral graphs (PAGs). Our criterion subsumes the existing ones and in this way unifies adjustment set construction for a large set of graph classes.

On the Validity of Covariate Adjustment for Estimating Causal Effects
Identifying effects of actions (treatments) on outcome variables from observational data and causal assumptions is a fundamental problem in causal inference. This identification is made difficult by the presence of confounders which can be related to both treatment and outcome variables. Confounders are often handled, both in theory and in practice, by adjusting for covariates, in other words c...
متن کاملAn Application of Speed Gradient Method to Neural Network Control for Underwater Robot
in this paper the speed gradient method is applied to design an adjustment algorithm for parameters of neural network controller. Local quadratic criterion expresses generalized error of desired trajectory tracking. Continuous adjustment laws for neural network parameters and their discrete analogies are derived on base of speed gradient method. To illustrate an approach, the mathematical model...
متن کاملA complete graphical criterion for the adjustment formula in mediation analysis.
Various assumptions have been used in the literature to identify natural direct and indirect effects in mediation analysis. These effects are of interest because they allow for effect decomposition of a total effect into a direct and indirect effect even in the presence of interactions or non-linear models. In this paper, we consider the relation and interpretation of various identification ass...
متن کاملGeneralized Resolution and Minimum Aberration for Nonregular Fractional Factorial Designs
Seeking the optimal design with a given number of runs is a main problem in fractional factorial designs(FFDs). Resolution of a design is the most widely usage criterion, which is introduced by Box and Hunter(1961), used to be employed to regular FFDs. The resolution criterion is extended to non-regular FFG, called the generalized resolution criterion. This criterion is providing the idea of ge...
متن کاملComments on the Complete Characterization of a Family of Solutions to a Generalized Fisher Criterion
Loog (2007) provided a complete characterization of the family of solutions to a generalized Fisher criterion. We show that this characterization is essentially equivalent to the original characterization proposed in Ye (2005). The computational advantage of the original characterization over the new one is discussed, which justifies its practical use.
